TIPS

• Ask colleagues for recommendations.
• Share feedback with colleagues.
• Seek grants or donations to pay for performers.
• Block book with neighboring libraries.
• Schedule 3-6 months in advance.
• Use a contract that includes details such as:

• date
• location
• audience size
• fee
• payment date
• cancellation policy
• what the library will provide and what the performer will provide

 

• Mail 2 copies of your contract with a SASE, copy of publicity, directions, and any other details.
• Call a day or two before the event to confirm/remind.
• Have a backup plan in case of noshows.
• Pay on the day of the event.
• Evaluate program with audience and staff exit surveys.
• Send a thank you note to performer within 48 hours.
• Consider sending a letter of reference to the performer for his/her portfolio.

6. The [NAME OF LIBRARY] reserves the right to cancel an event due to low registration by providing you with 7-10 days notice.
